Dr K Damodaran Memorial Hospital is a premier healthcare institution established with a vision to evolve as a benchmark in quality health care available to all.

Our legacy began in 1982 with Dr. K. Damodaran. A distinguished surgeon and dedicated clinician, he possessed a rare duality pairing his mastery of medicine with a poetic soul that left a lasting mark on literature.

Dr. K. Damodaran was born as the youngest son of Shri Krishnan and Kunjipennu of Kuttiyil house, Thattamala, Kollam. After completing his primary education, he joined Sree Narayana College, Kollam where he passed BSc Chemistry with distinction.

He secured admission to the first batch of the newly opened Govt Medical College in Thiruvananthapuram. After graduation, his first posting was at Muthukulam where he became highly popular due to his compassion and dedication to profession. It was there that he met the poetess Muthukulam Parvathy Amma, who ignited passion for poetry. He had a short tenure of work at the island of Andrott in Lakshadweep, and later moved to District Hospital Kollam. His keen interest in Surgery led him to pursue a postgraduate degree in Surgery, and gained admission to Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi. After brief tenures at some medical colleges in Kerala, he returned to Kerala Health Services.

He was appointed as Head of Surgery at District Hospital Kannur and later transferred to Kollam in 1970. He had a brief tenure as Superintendent of General Hospital, Kollam. In 1981, he was promoted to Asst DHS, but due to health issues he opted for voluntary retirement.

Following retirement, he established the 'Quilon Surgical Nursing Home' in 1981. Despite a hectic career, his passion for literature continued. He also contributed regularly to Medical columns in Malayalam periodicals. After his sad demise in 1992, the name of the Hospital was changed to Dr. K. Damodaran Memorial.

His wife, Smt Jayadevi remained a pillar of support throughout his journey and played a crucial role in his success. They have three sons. Their eldest son, Dr. Anil Roby, is a super specialist in Cardiology and he is the Managing director of Dr. K. Damodaran Memorial Hospital. The second son Dr. Anish Roshi is a Scientist working in Florida, USA. The youngest son, Dr. Ajith Roshi is a gastroenterologist and the Managing Director of Devi Clinical Laboratory, Kollam.
